Cleaning and burning calories

This mama here has been on a cleaning frenzy this morning.  My girls are old enough that they do a pretty good job on their bedrooms but it still needs a mama's touch from time to time.  I have dusted, vacuumed, cleaned under beds, dressers, cleared out trash from cubby holes, and so on.  I have made me a huge pile to take to the Goodwill, a huge trash pile, and the rest was put in the appropriate places.

After about 90min of cleaning this

And this

I decided it was time for a quick snack of this

I love the Kroger CARBmaster.  The nutrition in this is pretty good!  60calories, 1.5g fat, protein 8grams, 3 sugars, and 4 carbs.  You add a scrumptious little red apple and you have a great little mid morning snack.

I have been using the Myfitnesspal to record my workouts, calories and such.  And I was excited to learn that you can count the time you spent cleaning.  Yay!!   They have two different ones to choose from such as cleaning vigorously or cleaning, light, moderate effort.  I put cleaning, light, moderate effort and for 90min, and it estimated that I burned 265 calories.  Nice!!

So to catch up a little of what I have done this week here we go:

Saturday:           Ran 3.5miles on the treadmill
Sunday:             20min on the elliptical then we did back and shoulders
Monday:            4.5miles Speed work including a 10min warmup and 10min cool down.
Tuesday:            Stretch and Strength so I did about 15min of shoulders and then stretched.
Wednesday:       Ran 2miles on the treadmill
Thursday:          Extreme leg work and then walked on the treadmill at an incline for 15min
Friday:               Will be a rest day =D

So far I have signed up for a 5k, 10k, and a half marathon for this year.  Would like to add a few more to this years schedule.

Now off to do a little more cleaning then make dinner.

Legs and Jello

On the schedule for today was legs, abs & a 2 mile tempo run.  Well I did a hard, and I mean HARD, leg workout today!! I was pushed past what I thought I could do.  And my legs now feel like jello!!  That's great and I feel good but that meant that my 2 mile tempo has to be put on the back burner for either tonight or tomorrow.  Even though tomorrow's a rest day.  I don't mind using a rest day especially if its for a short 2miler.  This is what the rest of the weeks schedule looks like:

Friday-       2mile tempo run
Saturday-   40min cross training (20min walk at incline, abs, shoulders)
Sunday-     3.5mile run

Not too bad considering that I just got back to this type of working out.  I want to get better and harder at it each week.  I want to feel that I am making progress and that it's from pushing myself when needed and knowing when to listen to my body.  Such as today.

Blah blah blah

So today's one of those days that you just want to get lost in a good book, curled up on your couch.   The day started out very rainy but warm.  The rain has since stopped but the sky is still dark making that book and couch seem more and more inviting.

Just to catch up a bit on my workouts here is what I have done:

Sunday- Ran 3 miles and did some stretching

Monday- Speed work 3 miles, chest and abs

Today- Nothing....and I'm probably not going to do nothing.  It's only a stretch and strength day and I can work that in in tomorrows cross train.  I am still tired from being at the hospital all day waiting on this guy to get here.

This little Mr. was born last night at 9:17pm and him and his Mama did really well and are doing great!!

Tomorrow's schedule is 30min elliptical, back and some abs.

Freezing cold

Wow!! It is freekin freezin here!! Thank goodness I have a gym that I can do my workouts.

Workout today was 30min sport intervals on the elliptical and then I took me and Mr. P through a bi's, tri's and ab workout! Jeepers was it tough!! We did three different workouts on each and 4 sets of 20!! My arms feel like jello!!

Today we are heading to my little Sarah's cheer competition and then home to some warm cozy pj's and movie night.

On tomorrow's schedule is a 3 mile slow run....

Rest days

Today is a rest day and I am so glad.  Yesterdays workout was pretty brutal and all I kept thinking during the workout was...tomorrow's a rest day, tomorrow's a rest day.

Yesterday's workout was legs, abs and a 2mile run.  I felt good during this workout other than the run.  My legs felt a little stiff but I made the 2miles.  Had to do a little walking with it but I did it.  Tomorrow's workout is 40min cross.  I will probably do 30min of elliptical and then do abs.

So as far as me trying not to eat after 7:30 has been going good other than last night.  Had a birthday dinner and it was at 7.  Oh well, as long as I can keep to my new rule most of the week.

Feeling good

Today's schedule called for 30min of cross training.  I decided to do intervals on the elliptical.  After I was done with my 30min I did a few minutes of stretching.  I have to say it felt pretty good to do a good interval workout and not feel like I'm going to keel over.  After my workout I had a Healthy Choice dinner and some low sodium V8 juice.  I'm sooo gonna try to not eat after 7:30 so we shall see.  My snack tonight at 6:45 will be a nature valley bar.

I'm heading out to a free class on running at Up and Running.  They go through and show you good running form and other informative things that I may not know. We will see.....it was free so why not?

No eating after 7:30

Yesterdays workout:  Shoulders & Back  then did a few stretches
**********************************************************************************

Starting out my mornings are usually something like this.  A bowl of Special K, CarbMaster yogurt & coffee.  I try really hard to start my day out eating pretty decent and then plan my day from there.  I usually eat around 7am then I will have a fruit for snack around 9:30a or 10a.  Then I will have lunch around 12:30, snack at 3, dinner at 5ish, snack at 7ish.  This is for most days not all days just due to schedules being changed or something going on.  My bad habit though that I just can't seem to break is eating after 7ish.  I'm not hungry when I eat after 7 it's just a habit with me that I will graze after 7 and sometimes right before I go to bed.  So, one of my new goals this year is to try and not eat after 7:30.  Now I didn't start this new goal until I got home from vacation, and well even a few days after ;)  Actually, last night was the first night that I stuck to my goal.....yay me!!  And guess what??  Ha! I'm still alive!! It was hard let me tell you! Which tells me that it was definitely more habit than being hungry.  I have read several articles and some says that its best to not eat within 3 hours of bedtime and some say its okay just depending on what you eat.  I felt great this morning and felt  like I have a little more energy and don't feel so sluggish.  What is your thoughts about eating after a certain time at night?  Is that a strict rule with you or does it even matter?  Thoughts?  Anybody? =)

This is my Holly girl! I love her so much and thought I would share a pic of her with you guys!

Have an AWESOME day everybody!

Day 1

Well today was the first day of my 10k training.   And, ummm I'm not exactly sure as to why I started the first day with speed work??  It wasn't bad but with me just getting back into my workouts and runs it was a little tough.   That being said though it feels soooo good to be back at it and to have a schedule.

First on the schedule today was working out with Jess.  We did biceps and abs.  Then after she left I did a total of 3 miles on the treadmill and that included a warmup and a cool down.  Tomorrow is strength and stretch.  I think for the strength I will do back and shoulders.

After dinner tonight I also got in a 40min walk with Mr. P......nice =)

Schedules and Journals

Well we are finally home and it feels great!  Yes, I love vacation as much as the next person but it always feels good to get back home too.  With us being such a large family, we work better on routine.

Yesterday I had so many errands to run that I wasn't sure if I would get the stuff I wanted to do, done.  Like, I wanted to go to Up and Running to get a pair of new Brooks Glycerin 9 running shoes.  I did a lot of research on them and they seem to be and awesome pair to get.  So, I did get to go up there and they fitted me for them and I went outside to try them and they are true to word.  Love it!!  What was weird is that I normally take a size 8 but they said I should be in a 9 with all the training and running that I'm gonna be doing.  So, I took them home and went outside for a short walk/run and they were right.  They were comfortable and all was well.

I also wanted to get my Target fix and pick up a few things that I needed.  I had to pick up some gallon storage bags to put some of my Christmas items away.  Needed to pick up dog food.  They had cereal on sale and well okay....I just love Target and I never leave there empty handed.

Thursday morning before left Florida I went out for a small walk/run.  Wonderful!! Then Friday, as I said before, I went out for a short walk/run and again, it felt wonderful.  I did about 3.3 miles altogether.  I haven't been pushing myself on making myself run only going on how I feel.  Starting Monday is when I am on my 10k training schedule so that is when I will push myself a little harder.  Monday is speed work on the treadmill.  The plan is to do 5 400's with gradually building up speed and then a slow walk/jog for 5 400's making that a total 2.5miles.

Also starting on Monday is journaling all my eating and along with that my workout for that day and how I felt.  Was it hard?  Was it easy?  Did I enjoy or dread it?  Things like that.  I want to be able to look back and see just where I need to push myself more or cut myself some slack.  I have journaled before and it has really helped.

Well I'm off to put some time in on the elliptical and then get ready for a brunch with my Ashley!

Looking ahead

If you didn't know already we have been on vacation this past week.  We actually are heading home tomorrow and although this vacation has been great, I can't wait to get back to a routine.  I believe I have a decent training plan for my 10k.  It's slow starting but, it's a start.  For now my cross training days will be on the elliptical.   I will be running 4 days a week and that includes one day of speed.  Those might be a little slow too starting out, but I know I'll get there.

Starting this month I want to try a new healthy recipe and hopefully share it on here.  Pictures too.....oh yea!!

Okay, so I'm gonna share this quote with you that really has helped me this past few months of not being able to workout.

"Running should be a lifelong activity.  Approach it patiently and intelligently, and it will reward you for a long, long time."  -Michael Sargent

Good Start

Workout:  2 40min walks outside in the beautiful Florida sunshine.

Today is January 1, 2012!! New and fresh start to the new year!  Today I woke up early, which isn't abnormal for me, and drank a great cup of coffee.  My plan was to go to the treadmill but then John decided it was too nice outside and that maybe we should walk.  Ummm Okay!! We are in Florida on vacation after all!!

John is not one to walk long or fast so I just kept his pace and we did about 40min of walking.  It was super nice and about 9am with tons of sunshine.  As we were heading back I decided I needed a longer walk.  So, I grabbed my 12yr old Hannah and we did another 40min walk and at a faster pace.  Was really nice.  And it was extra nice just spending some alone time with her and just chatting about the things a 12yr old girl wants to chat about.

After the walk we headed to the pool for a while.  The high today here in Florida was 81 degrees.....Yep I can handle that.
