Yoga for Runners

Today's workout was a 3.15mile run.  I ran my road from one end to the other and it comes out to 3.14miles.  My road is hilly but at each end it has a hill.  It was rough but I have been needing some hill work anyway.  Afterwards I came in and did some icing and then did some Yoga for Runners.  So here is next weeks goals:

Monday-- Legs, abs, and walk
Tuesday--Intervals on the TM...some speed and some hills
Wednesday- Yoga for Runners
Thursday- 4 mile run
Friday- Yoga for Runners
Saturday- Elliptical bi's, tris, chest
Sunday- 5 mile run

I know that is something every day but there are some lower activities in there such as the Yoga for Runners.   I have been doing a lot of reading and researching how I can help my body to be a little better with the runs.  I have seen in plenty of blogs and articles how Yoga for Runners is a great addition to your workout routine.  It focuses on all the muscles that truly need a great stretch.  I invested in this dvd but haven't received it yet.
Today's yoga was on demand.  It actually helped give me a good stretch in these oh so tight muscles.  Don't get me wrong, I stretch but you know how it is sometimes.  You get in from your run and you ice for a bit then stretch (or vice versa) and I just feel sometimes that I don't put enough time into it like I should.  I read several reviews on this one and the only complaints was that some felt the dvd was a little long, buy other than that it was a great detailed dvd and really focuses on those key areas that runners really need.  So I will let you know my thoughts on it after I have done it a couple times.

I also purchased a book that is called RUNNING AND WALKING FOR WOMEN OVER 40 by Katherine Switzer.  I love to walk and I love to run.  This book seems like it has lots of information and tons of things I'm sure I already know but I'm sure there are tons of things that I don't know.  So I'm excited to be getting both of these this week and I will let you know my thoughts on both.
I just finished up reading THE ULTIMATE BEGINNER'S RUNNING GUIDE.  It was a very good and easy read.  Tons of great information from just getting out there to dealing with certain injuries to nutrition.  On a scale of 1-10 I would give it a 9.  Perfect for new and experienced runners.

What books are you reading or have read that has helped you in this journey?  What do you do after a run?  Do you stretch and if so what ones do you do?  Or do you just try to incorporate a couple of days that you just focus on stretching?

Quitting...NOT AN OPTION!

Monday was suppose to be legs and a 5 mile walk with this girl.
But instead it ended up being a totally different workout all together.  I did 22min on the elliptical and 25min walk on the TM with incline then it was off to do bi's, shoulders, back, and abs.  I also through in a few tri's just for fun.
Today I was able to get a .50 walk then a 2.50 run finished with a .25 walk before Jess got here to do legs and abs.  Man she kicked my A$$!! How can something this little.....
Dish out such a BIG whoopin!! Love it though and she ALWAYS pushes me way past what I think I can do!!

Now just a little tid bit on my running.  I get that I am getting back into it and that I am way slow.  I get that my body has totally been through a LOT!  I enjoy my runs.  Hard as they have been lately.  I look forward to them.  I AM NOT QUITTING! If it takes me the rest of my life to even just run from here to the mailbox then thats what it will be!  But I WILL RUN!!

Also want to just say that I'm so happy and proud of all the Boston runners yesterday!! WAY TO GO!

Its a run/bike/walking kinda day!!

So today was one of those gorgeous days that you just want to try and do everything especially if its doing it outside!  Yesterday....not so much!  It rained ALL day long! So I decided that the rain can rain and I can take my run inside to the TM.  I decided that I wanted to try some running hill intervals then tried some faster speed intervals.  I kinda liked doing this.  I have had this TM for about 5 years and have never done any of the programs on it.  Just did my thing.  Wasn't a lot of speed hill work but it was 3 miles.  Then I moved onto some hammies, tris, and abs.
Today I knew I wanted to get a longer run in even if it meant going super duper slow (which..it was).  It was just me and my sweet girl and she was up for getting some Mama time with me but kinda frowned on the running part.  So she decided to bike.
This is her and this is me pretty much at the beginning of the 5 miles.
The run was pretty good even though there were lots of people out today, it was pretty warm and the winds were craaaazy!!  The first 2.5 miles were pretty good and only stopped a few times to answer text messages.....I know!  That won't be happening anymore.  Along the way my sweet girl and I talked and talked and then there were times that it was quiet but still felt right.  We also saved a little life today too!! We came up to this little fella who was directly in the middle of the path and just knew if we didn't get him off there he would get ran over.
He was sooo little!  This picture here was when we had about 1.5miles to go.  I was pretty sore and had to walk a little here and there.
At one point I had asked her if she was sweating yet and she said no.  I asked her then if I could bike while she ran and she very quickly informed me that yes her hands were sweating...lol!
All in all the run was good.  It was warm, windy and pretty busy on the path.  Even with the walk run on the way back I still just feel I need to be okay with it.  My body will let me know when it's ready to push more.  Its been there and knows.
Just another couple pics of my pansies that I planted...LAST YEAR!! All these that you see came back and look so good and I have done nothing!! Nothing at all.  To see my flower beds you would have thought I spent a lot of time in them already this year.  I have spent no time with the exception of weeding.  Truly amazing!!

Also real quick what do you think of these?
These are my new Mizunos running shoes! Pretty cool huh??  Kinda makes me feel like Sarah over at SkinnyRunner!  Of course I think hers were free but whatev!  I seriously ordered these the day before she had posted that she had received hers and that she was going to run in them this weekend and Monday at Boston.  Wonderful blog she has so check her out!!

Okay that is about it for today.  I'm off to ice and take some strong meds.  Tomorrow will be legs and a 5 mile walk with this little girl!!

A Quick Catch up...

So I thought I better get on here and do a little catching up.  I have still been plugging a way at my workouts.  However, my eating habits lately have been very poor.  With all the changes that my body has and is going through the last thing that I need is a poor eating routine!! Dang!  With Easter and family birthdays it's never ending.  I have looked back on some of my eating journals and see that I am pretty good when it comes to just regular meals and snacks.  Wish I could be better on eating more veggies and fruits though.  I am not big on fast food.  I am bad on sweets!! Cakes, ice cream, cookies, chocolates....uggg! So, this week I am on a 7 day mission.  I want to eat my meals, 3 snacks and plenty of water!! And NO sweets!! At. All.  It's just for 7 days and my sister is doing it with me.  Oh and no eating after 7:30pm.  I have also noticed that I tend to snack late into the evening and I'm not even hungry.  Habits are so easy to make but so hard to brake!! So my goal is to try this for 7 days and just see how I feel.

My runs are still slow but I am getting them in.  I just did a 4 mile run yesterday and even though it was slow I still felt good.  I will keep plugging away!! So heres a little recap of my doings and a few pics from mine and Margies bike ride.
